Madrid December 2015
-->
Escaping the gloomy
weather during winter is a must for everyone living in the north ( England ,
Wales and Ireland), so Madrid was my choice for a little weekend getaway. The pleasant winter sun was au
rendez-vous (and you could quickly spot the northerners… we were all in t-shirt
)
Madrid Museum:
Museum Del Prado : an impressive place with hundred of masterpiece. We were fortunate to see the exhibition of Ingres.
Museum The Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, was free 1 st weekend of december as it was a national holiday.
The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía : I personal did not like it.
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum: Was good as there was an impressionism exhibition going on.
The Museum Sorolla ( Joaquín Sorolla house was converted into a mesuem), is my favorite. A nice little museum doable on a Sunday morning just before heading for a late terrace breakfast.
Food:
Mercado de la Cebada ( Plaza de la Cebada, s/n, 28005 Madrid, Spain): Buzzing market especially near the Pulpo section! where you'll need to fight your way to eat delicious fresh Pulpo and Shrimps.
Chocolate Con Churro / Hot Chocolate and Churros ( Pitty it is mainly a winter thing)
Chocolateria san gines
Pasadizo San Ginés, 5, 28013 Madrid, Spain
Pasadizo San Ginés, 5, 28013 Madrid, Spain
Why, simply because they were using a darker and richer chocolate to produce their think creamy hot chocolate whereas in the other Hot Chocolate cafeterias, the hot chocolate was far to sweet for my liking: I had the impressing I was more or less drinking a thick nesquik type of chocolate.
The only downside about Chocolateria san gines is, you need to queue... mais ca en vaut la peine!
